Structural Repairs

Structural problems including cracking brickwork, failing lintels, subsidence, or bulging walls require prompt, expert attention. We assess the root cause before recommending and implementing an appropriate repair strategy, whether that involves installing new structural lintels, repairing cracked masonry, or undertaking partial underpinning of shallow foundations.

Brickwork Repointing and Masonry Repair

The mortar joints in older South West London properties, particularly Victorian and Edwardian brickwork, deteriorate over time due to weathering. Repointing with an appropriate lime-based or hydraulic lime mortar restores weather resistance and prevents water ingress. We also carry out brick replacement, crack stitching, and decorative brickwork repairs to match the existing profile and colour as closely as possible.

Lintel and Damp-Proof Course Replacement

Corroded steel lintels over windows and doors are a common source of cracking in properties built between the 1960s and 1980s. We replace rusted lintels with correctly sized, load-bearing replacements and make good the surrounding brickwork and internal plasterwork. We also install chemical injection damp-proof courses where rising damp is identified.

Underpinning

Shallow or unstable foundations sometimes require underpinning to transfer loads to a more stable soil layer. This is a highly technical process requiring a structural engineer's specification. We carry out underpinning to engineer drawings under Building Control supervision.
